Power-carving a Red-Tailed Hawk Feather with Christine Smith
Learn how to carve your own Red-Tailed Hawk feather!
Morning session 10am-12pm:
This demo focuses on shaping a 3-D feather.
Power-carving realistic, with fine details.
Burning feather splits.
Afternoon session 1pm-4pm:
We will seal, prime and paint the feather with transparent acrylic paint-washes with
many tips and tricks for success.
No prior experience needed for any of the carving or painting portion of the class.
There will be a hand-out in class of the painting details & instructions to take home.
Please do not purchase any tools or bits.
I will have all supplies ready for you, including sanding pads, paints and
brushes as well as a small stand for your finished feather.

-wood burning system
-spear bit for burning
-dust mask
-hair dryer
-Ruby carving bit
-Ruby ball medium or small carving bit
-Kutzall sphere, small, coarse or medium

Venue Information - The Bascom: Adult Studio B (Trail Level)
Located on the Trail Level (lower level) of The Bascom's main building, Adult Studio B hosts a variety of classes, workshops, and more. Entrance is either through the front door of the main level of the building and down the stairs or from the trail entrance on the lower level of the backside of the main building.
