Artist Bio

Bianca Mitchell is a digital illustrator and printmaker. She draws her illustrations by hand, on paper or on a Wacom tablet, which keeps her handwork in the process, then refines the drawing in Adobe Illustrator. The finished file goes to a platemaking company, and the polymer plates come back to her for inking and hand-pressing. She considers printmaking a natural extension of digital work, since both depend on positive and negative space and on storytelling through iconography and simplified designs.

Her subjects come from her mountain home, the flora of the Plateau, and moments of collective joy: the Peace Dog series follows Buddhist monks walking for peace with their dog, Aloka. Drawing has been part of Mitchell's life for as long as she can remember. She holds a Bachelor of Arts from Brevard College, exhibits her work regionally, and has served on the Friends of the Fine Arts Steering Committee for Brevard College.

Bianca is Director of Marketing and Communications at The Bascom. She lives and works in Western North Carolina, where she spends time outside the studio hiking, reading, and enjoying life with her dogs and husband, Brian.
