Artist Bio

Madison Minus is a wood turner based in Highlands, North Carolina, working out of his studio in Franklin. Drawing on locally sourced hardwoods and burls, he creates one-of-a-kind turned pieces that celebrate the natural character of each material.

Madison's fascination with wood turning began early, and in 2018 he acquired his first lathe, honing his craft on small bowls and vases. Since then, his work has grown in scale and ambition, expanding into larger bowls and intricate hollow forms.

Madison lets the wood itself guide the process — following the grain, figure, and natural imperfections of each piece to reveal its inherent form. This organic approach results in work that is both sculptural and deeply connected to the landscape from which it comes, reflecting the rich forests of Western North Carolina.
