Over 50 Years of Creating and Selling Sterling Silver Jewelry
During mid-1970s college summer breaks in Southern California, Robert Doe would visit his Hopi Indian roommate's family in Arizona where he became fascinated with their craftsmanship.
After training with Hopi and Navajo silversmiths, he opened Black Elk Trading Post in Divide CO where he sold authentic Native American jewelry, clothing, and books. While offering a jewelry repair service, he began creating his own style of quality sterling silver jewelry pieces and belt buckles. In the early 1980s, Robert also mentored silversmithing students at the Colorado Springs Fine Art Gallery's Bemis Art School.
The Trading Post was moved to Cashiers, NC in the 1990s and now, as a retired shopkeeper, Robert is a working craftsman and jewelry designer living in Highlands, NC. His new ART & SOUL STERLING JEWELRY designs combine hand-forged sterling components and carefully selected stones to create one-of-a-kind wearable works of art.
