The Bascom's Community Call returns for its second year. This year's exhibition, Voices of Influence: Celebrating the Impact of Women in Art, honors the women whose creative contributions have shaped the cultural life of the Highlands Cashiers Plateau and the broader Southern Appalachian region. All Artists from our extended creative community are invited to submit work for consideration.

Entry Deadline: July 19, 2026
Exhibition Dates: August 8 - November 28

The theme is open to ALL artists. What the exhibition asks is a specific, considered perspective on what women's artmaking has meant, what it has carried forward, and what it continues to shape.

Inspiration Prompts
Consider drawing from:

  • Personal history and memory. A woman who taught you, raised you, or worked beside you.
  • Local and regional legacy. Women artists, craft practitioners, and community makers from the Highlands-Cashiers Plateau and Southern Appalachian region, recognized or unrecognized, whose work shaped the places and traditions you know.
  • The mountain environment and artmaking. How this landscape has shaped women's creative practice and how their work has shaped it in return.
  • Intergenerational craft and tradition. The movement of skills across generations: what was taught, what was changed, what was lost, and what was reclaimed.
  • A work of art, reinterpreted. A known work, reconsidered from a fresh perspective or through the lens of who was absent from the frame.
  • Historical events and cultural milestones. A moment in the history of women in the arts, interpreted through your own perspective.
  • Identity, resilience, and place. What it means to make art in this landscape and community.
