The Bascom: A Center for the Visual Arts extends our heartfelt condolences to the family and loved ones of Horst Winkler.
A remarkable individual whose legacy spanned continents and industries, Mr. Winkler brought a spirit of innovation, generosity, and community everywhere he went. From his beginnings in Heidelberg, Germany, to his pioneering work with Mercedes-Benz in the United States, Mr. Winkler’s life was defined by vision and purpose.
We are especially grateful for his meaningful contributions to the Highlands community and to The Bascom. Visitors to our campus continue to enjoy the Margaret and Horst Winkler Nature and Sculpture Trail and, most recently, the newly dedicated Heather and Horst Winkler Patio and Lawn, spaces that reflect his enduring belief in the power of beauty, nature, and connection.
A Memorial Service will be held Saturday, July 26, at 10:30 a.m. at the First Presbyterian Church in Highlands, NC.
