Get Fired Up! The Bascom’s 14th Biannual Summer Pottery Show Returns July 18–19 | 10 am - 4 pm
Highlands, NC – The Bascom: A Center for the Visual Arts is thrilled to invite you to the 14th Biannual Summer Pottery Show, happening July 18–19, 2025, at the Dave Drake Studio Barn. This two-day celebration of clay brings together the vibrant work of The Bascom’s talented Studio Members, local ceramic artists who shape, fire, and finish their pieces right here on campus.
There’s magic in mud and our artists know it. Clay is alive with possibility, transforming through touch, fire, and time. “It asks you to pay attention,” says one Bascom Studio Member. And that care, that craft, is on full display at this special summer event.
Expect to find everything from beautifully functional mugs and bowls to striking sculptural works, each handcrafted on-site. The show offers a chance to purchase one-of-a-kind ceramics, meet the artists behind the wheel, and see what happens when creativity and community come together under one roof.
“Being involved at the Bascom Clay Studio for the past 12 years has been great,” shares clay artist Ned Turnbull. “Friendship, lessons, and a great place to do pottery have been the rewards. Twice each year, summer and fall, the Barn has a sale to allow members to show their wares. It is well done and very well supported.”
“The Bascom Summer Pottery Sale is my favorite way to sell my work,” adds clay artist Jo Hill. “Most of my pieces are functional, and I love knowing that residents or visitors to the Plateau are using pieces I made and that they know the piece was produced here. It is an honor to be sharing the proceeds from each sale to support The Bascom so that art is accessible to all.”
The Summer Pottery Show is more than a clay showcase; it’s a celebration of local makers and community connection. All proceeds support both the individual artists and The Bascom’s Creative Community Initiative, which expands access to inclusive, year-round arts programming across the Highlands-Cashiers Plateau and surrounding areas.
Whether you’re a longtime collector or just clay-curious, this is your chance to get inspired, support local makers, and take home something truly special.
Don’t miss it, July 18 & 19 at the Dave Drake Studio Barn. Come see what’s firing at The Bascom!
