Bel Canto is an annual benefit performance featuring international opera stars, many of whom have performed at the Metropolitan Opera. All have performed on the international opera stage and at regional opera houses all over the United States. The program features arias from favorite operas but also includes popular songs from Broadway shows as well.

Founded in 1993 exclusively as a benefit for the Bascom, Bel Canto’s beneficiaries now include the music programs at the Highlands school and the local preschools. Through the generosity of its benefactors Bel Canto has contributed over $575,000 for the benefit of the Highlands Community in the last 15 years.

Artistic Director, Stella Zambalis, and pianist, Dr. Stephen Dubberly, plan and lead each performance. Ms. Zambalis is an accomplished soprano whose career spans many years including performances at the Met. Dr. Dubberly is the piano virtuoso and Associate Professor in the Division Conducting and Ensembles at the University of North Texas. His skills in accompanying our singers are such that he is referred to as “our orchestra.”

The annual Bel Canto performance occurs in September on the First Sunday after Labor Day, followed by a gala dinner with the artists at Highlands Country Club. For more information, please This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it..
