There are an infinite number of ways to create narrative expression through figurative sculpture. Emotion can be created not only through the face or gesture, but also by contrasting smooth and textural forms. In this fun filled three-day workshop, students will create a 15” hanging piece that combines the small human torso and an abstracted, textural skirt. The lessons will guide students step-by-step through the process of building the human form and creating textural layers. Simple anatomy and proportion rules will be discussed and demonstrated to further the figurative hand building skills of each student; individual attention will be emphasized. Particular attention will be given to the importance of gesture as a narrative detail, as well as the expansion of storytelling potential through the addition of found objects. Easy hanging techniques will be discussed. Artist Talk Thursday, March 23rd from 4 pm - 5 pm.
