The Bascom's Education Department is committed to providing life-enriching experiences through comprehensive arts education for children and youth. We offer a variety of educational programs which include workshops, ongoing classes, Art by Appointment, field trips, demonstrations, and community classes, designed to meet the needs of young artists of all skill levels.  Scholarships, sponsored by the Cullasaja Women's Outreach, ensure that all students can participate.

Weekly Summer Youth Studio Days

Youth Ceramics Art By Appointment

When our regular youth pottery offerings fall on inconvenient dates or times, The Bascom offers “Art by Appointment”, custom designed classes for individuals or groups.  


Youth Pottery with Ceramics Resident Artist

This monthly program offers young artists an opportunity to have fun, while helping develop style, technique, form, and concept.

Please visit The Bascom’s interactive learning environment located in the Greehey Atrium Landing. Explore self-guided art activities, books from The Bascom Library, participate in a Lego building challenge, and more!

Hudson Library KID ZONE

The Bascom Education & Outreach Department is proud to partner with the Hudson Library for Kid Zone With The Bascom every 1st Thursday from 3:30-4:30pm! Come down to The Hudson Library for literary themed visual art projects with The Bascom.

After School Art and Extracurricular Programs

The Bascom works with several schools, and after school enrichment programs in the Highlands-Cashiers area as part of our Community Education Initiative. Chances are, your young artist is already participating with The Bascom through a Community Education program. The Ruth Eckerd Children’s Gallery

Visit the Bascom’s Trail Level to view selections of work from the Bascom’s Community Outreach and Summer Programs, and participate in our exhibition related gallery activities in the Ruth Eckerd Children’s Gallery.


Kids Hike Highlands Passport Program

The Bascom is one of four kid-friendly trails needed to complete the stamps on your passport and receive a "I Hiked Highlands" sticker and pin!

Read2Me Story Walk

Located along the Bascom Nature Trail, and connected with the Highlands Plateau Greenway, the Story Walk provides visitors and families the opportunity to read while enjoying the outdoors. Please come and read “The Bugliest Bug”, by Carol Diggory Shields and illustrated by Scott Nash!

Community Day June 1, 2019

Every summer, The Bascom hosts a free community inviting everyone to visit our campus for a day of interactive art activities, demonstrations, exhibitions, and outdoor fun! Formerly known as Family Day, The Bascom’s Community Day will be held on Saturday, June 1, 2019, from 11am – 2pm. Everyone in the community is invited! Of course, our galleries with exciting new exhibitions will be open, interactive art activities will be available on the outdoor Terrace including woodturning demonstrations, face painting, and a Bioblitz with photographer Kevin Fiztpatrick.


There's no better way to inspire creativity than to be exposed to creative works!  The Bascom's exhibition galleries are admission free and open to the public year round.
