TestimonialsFrom Cat Chow, NYC fiber artist, 2009 instructor and subject of Beyond Fiber Art exhibition"As an artist who exhibits quite regularly, I found the newly relocated Bascom to be a very unique experience. Immediately I felt such a strong presence of spirituality and warmth from the space and staff that I can rightfully say that this is by far my favorite venue to display my work. Furthermore, the concept of transplanting the building, bridge and floor from different locations in the country not only is environmentally conscious but can also be seen as an art piece in itself. I feel honored to be part of this new stage in the history of The Bascom." From Jessica Stewart, 2009 instructor"I just wanted to send a letter thanking the faculty and staff for the wonderful opportunity of teaching summer workshops at your fantastic facility. From the moment I arrived at The Bascom I was welcomed and greeted with so much enthusiasm and support. Being my first teaching opportunity outside of the university setting, I found myself a little nervous at the chance to teach in such a new and prestigious place. I see the appreciation the staff has to be apart of not only the outcome of The Bascom but also the process of creating such a place. Not only did your facility allow me to teach but it also gave me a chance to learn from both faculty/staff and the students. I heard nothing but amazing comments about the campus and the staff. This has been an opportunity I will never forget. It gave me a chance to spread my wings and find out for sure that teaching art (ceramics) is my calling. I cannot thank you all enough. Thank you again for your support and I look forward to talking with you in the coming months. From Cary Saurage, August 2009, via email"Saturday, I took friends from Baton Rouge to The Bascom. I was "blown away" when I crossed the bridge to see the grounds chock-a-block with cars and people coming and going to them. I assumed that a special event was responsible. But, that was not the case. It was the facility and the exhibits that were the attraction. While my friends toured the Frankenthaler exhibit downstairs and then the Moulthrop exhibit upstairs, I ordered sandwiches at the cafe, which was doing a good business. My friends, Steve and Claire Wilson, were delighted by both exhibitions and the facility. It was no small compliment because Steve is an exceptional artist; his livelihood is in the design and production of stain glass. (He is responsible for the design and installation of the windows in the sanctuary of the Community Bible Church.) We enjoyed our lunch on the covered patio. Afterwards, the Wilsons made some purchases in the gift shop. At any rate, congratulations on the success of The Bascom. And, thank you. I am grateful for your vision and endeavors to make it a reality. It has enriched my life and, obviously, is enriching the lives of many." From Jack Sawyer, Bank of New York-Mellon, presenting sponsor of the 2009 Collective Spirits wine festival"Highlands is a unique among small towns in America -- stunningly beautiful; environmentally attuned: sophisticated, yet laid back; with an incredible range of cultural activities appropriate and exciting for all age groups. The Bascom is a virtual microcosm of all of these wonderful attributes. Many of the friends and clients of BNY Mellon Wealth Management are lovers and supporters of the arts, and have homes in Highlands and Cashiers. The Highlands-Cashiers Plateau provides them the respite of a small town, while The Bascom gives them the rich cultural experience usually associated with larger cities Supporting The Bascom is a perfect intersection of their interests with ours."From Melissa Delany, Old Edwards Inn & Spa, presenting sponsor of 2009 Autumn Leaves festival and hospitality sponsor of 2009 Collective Spirits wine festival and 2009 Mountains in Bloom garden festival“We are absolutely delighted with our corporate sponsorship of the Bascom and look forward to another successful year ahead. It only makes sense to align ourselves with a world-class organization like The Bascom, and we have enjoyed and benefited from the exposure this relationship has brought to us. They are true professionals in every way, and we look forward to the growth that they will bring to Highlands and Old Edwards.” From Ayana Dusenberry, WNC magazine, silver sponsor of the 2009 Collective Spirits wine festival and 2009 Mountains in Bloom garden festival“WNC magazine prides itself on showcasing the history, culture, people, homes, and arts of Western North Carolina, so it makes perfect sense to also be a proud sponsor of The Bascom and many of their world-class events. It has been a pleasure partnering with The Bascom over the past two years and getting to see how passionate the staff and supporters are about bringing diverse art and cultural experiences in a gorgeous natural, community setting to the residents of Western North Carolina and beyond.” Want to add your testimonial or share a heartwarming story about how The Bascom has impacted your life?
