Taylor, basketmakers, demonstration 3-5 pm In this demonstration, "Trees Transformed: Traditional Appalachian White Oak Basketmaking," master basketmakers Aaron Yakim and Cynthia Taylor reveal the skill behind their traditional craft. They will demonstrate the time-consuming process: from finding suitable white oak trees near their West Virginia home, to felling, splitting, carving, whittling and finally weaving the basketry elements into rib or split baskets. Attendees are invited to bring old baskets that they have in their personal collection to share and receive comment.
