From the Director

In a mere months, The Bascom has made a giant leap.  In mid-2009, the organization occupied its new architect-designed campus-built in part of vintage barn wood, recycled buildings and "green" materials-and has vastly expanded its programs and services.  Enthusiastic adults and children are participating in the art center's core offerings: the special exhibitions that rotate, as well as studio art classes and art appreciation experiences, e.g. lectures, tours and docent training.  In 2008, at The Bascom's old location, we served 9,000 individuals and offered 9 exhibitions and 30 classes. But in 2009, due to our new campus, careful planning and vigorous outreach, we've increased to an audience of 25,000 for the six month period.  Children and adults have enjoyed 21 exhibitions and 160 educational programs.  Membership has grown from 700 households to over 1,200.

Non-artists will be happy to hear that 95% of offerings are for beginning or budding practitioners.  Among our most popular new opportunities are intergenerational experiences where grandparents, parents and children tackle an art project together with a qualified instructor.

Stop by for a cultural infusion in the exhibition galleries, a glass of wine in the cafe, a one-of-a-kind purchase in the shop, a walk on the nature trail, or participation in a lecture or class!

Hope to see you soon,
