The Essence of the Figure

Monday-Friday
October 8-12   10 am – 4 pm

Medium: ceramics
Level: II & III
Instructor: Fong Choo
Tuition: $520 member/$555 non-member

Throughout history, the story of events, emotions and spiritual beliefs have been depicted through sculptures and paintings of the human form. In this course, you will learn to make sculptural forms that depict the essence of the female figure. Simple or stylized gestures in the form or face of a figure can be extremely evocative and give the viewer the thread of a story. We will learn simple hand building methods using coils, slabs and press molds to make pieces that have an individual point of view rather than portraiture.
Donna Polseno was born in Connecticut, where she grew up fascinated by her father's work as a painter and illustrator. When she went of to The Kansas City Art Institute, it was to become a painter like him, until a chance exposure to ceramics when she was lead into the pottery shop where Ken Ferguson and Victor Babu were teaching. The energy, creativity, passion of that studio lead to a lifetime commitment to clay. Donna has taught workshops and classes nationally and internationally and has an extensive exhibition record. Her works are in many collections including The American Museum of Ceramic Craft, R.J. Reynolds Co., The Kansas City Art Institute and the Mint Museum of Contemporary Crafts, to name a few.
