Surprising Ourselves: Images and Truths on the Page

This workshop forms a community of writers at every stage of the writing journey in a respectful, safe space for exploring the experiences and observations that make up a life. Participants will work from short journal excursions to create poems, memoirs, and stories. The facilitator will offer prompts, models, and exercises from established writers for participants to find their own materials and develop an approach and voice for their own work. Okay: although this can be serious work, writers should be ready for some rowdy adventure, as well!
Georganne’s poems have appeared in Pearl, Poem, Appalachian Voices, New Millennium Writings, Maypop, and Slant, and she has been the recipient of six Tennessee Writers Alliance awards and an award from Tennessee Mountain Writers. A longtime teacher of English, French, and creative writing in Nashville schools, she continues to conduct writing workshops for young people and adults. Italy, a second homeland to which she returns often, forms a part of her landscape. Georganne Harmon grew up in Nashville, Tennessee, where she now makes her home with her husband, John and their two dogs Carly and Lily.
