"Are You Talking to Me? Dialogue: It Ain't Just Talking Baby"Saturday, May 26 10 am - 4 pm
Medium: writing Level: I, II & III Instructor: Tim Curtis Tuition: $75 member / $110 non-member Via selected readings, we will explore how dialogue can reveal mood and character, set the scene and advance the action. Through short, directed writing exercises, students will try their hand at summery, indirect and direct dialogue. Punctuation and speaker attributes will be discussed. We’ll learn how beats in dialogue keep the reader grounded. Afternoon writing prompts will assist students to develop their own dialogue in scene.Tim Curtis was born in San Diego, California on a dark and dreary night causing his mother a lot of pain. They say he cried like a baby. Years later, when he voiced an interest in being born again his mother took a long sip of her extra dry Martini, lit a Tarrington 100’s cigarette, exhaled and said, “You’re on your own buddy.” One other point of interest; as a child he never shared, and if asked why he’d tell you, “I wasn’t into it.” Also, it’s been years since he harbored the illusion he could kick anybody’s ass. Tim Curtis received his MFA in Sculpture, from the University of California, Berkeley. He’s taught sculpture at Washington University in St, Louis, the University of Iowa and the University of Miami. He has exhibited extensively throughout the US, EU, Korea and Africa. Tim will soon receive an MFA degree from Florida International University in creative writing. Blah, blah, blah.
