Art Academy Summer Session II (Four Weeks)

July 5-31, 2010


Frame Loom Weaving, instructor Kathy Roig
Mondays 1-3 pm (Studio B or the terrace)
Intergenerational - students under age 12 must be with adult
Weave a small "tapestry" using a simple frame loom, and learn how to mix colors and textures using a wide selection of yarns. $120 Bascom members/ $125 non-members for four classes

Outdoor Drawing, instructor Knight Martorell
Mondays 10 am-noon (On location)
Learn to draw and sketch while enjoying a Highlands outing. Students will be guided in use of materials, composition and line during visits to a variety of locations in and around Highlands. $120 Bascom members/ $125 non-members for four classes

Life Drawing, Instructor TBA
Mondays 5-7 pm (Studio B)
Classes will cover contour, the gesture, negative/positive space, chiaroscuro and form. Short and long poses will advance the student to a greater understanding of form in space. $120 Bascom members/ $125 non-members for four classes

Creative Journaling, instructor Betty Holt
Wednesdays 2-5 pm (Library at The Bascom)
Learn 16 different writing techniques to: organize your thoughts; build self-confidence; access the wisdom from dreams; safely discharge anger, grief, and other strong emotions; even visualize your future. $120 Bascom members/ $125 non-members for four classes

Interactive Art Appreciation Part 1, instructor Rosemary Stiefel

Wednesdays 10 am-noon (Library at The Bascom)
Gain an understanding of art, one medium at a time, while experiencing each with a hands-on activity. Broaden your understanding of art and the materials that artists use. $120 Bascom members/ $125 non-members for four classes

Beginning and advanced students will gain skills in the craft of painting - from tools, to mediums to rendering - in a friendly, community setting. $120 Bascom members/ $125 non-members for four classes

Watercolor Basics: Shapes, instructor Robin Swaby
Thursdays 10 am-noon (Studio A)
Learn the importance of negative and positive shapes. Emphasis will be on basic watercolor handling and skill building. $120 Bascom members/ $125 non-members for four classes

Pastels: Skies, Clouds, Water, Mist, instructor Robin Swaby
Thursdays 1-3 pm (Studio A)
Learn to handle the soft edges of various clouds and soft atmospheric effects. This class will teach important techniques to render a variety of sky moods and effects. $120 Bascom members/ $125 non-members for four classes

Botanical Watercolor, instructor Fayne Ansley
Saturdays 2-4 pm (Studio A)
Explore our beautiful local flora and fauna and gain the skills, knowledge and creative inspiration to produce paintings based on close observation of plants, flowers, fruit, vegetables and other organic forms. $120 Bascom members/ $125 non-members for four classes
