Volunteer Opportunities We welcome volunteers in a variety of capacities. Here is a description of each of our volunteer departments: Office VolunteerAssemble bulk mailings, copy and collate originals, affix address labels, file documents, undertake research, make phone calls, etc. Gallery Volunteer (Interpretation - Docent) Sit at entrance to gallery. Greet visitors. Count attendance. Read printed Bascom exhibition information. Answer basic visitor questions about exhibitions, programs, and services; when in doubt, take visitor name and phone and refer question to the staff. Gallery Volunteer (Security) Help protect works of art from damage. Tour gallery space(s) at beginning and end of work period; verify on log sheet that all objects are in place and unharmed. Report to artistic director any disruptions or damages or suspicious activity in the galleries. As needed, inform visitors that no beverages, food or large backpacks or similar are allowed in the galleries; and that there is no touching of artworks on display in the galleries. Benefit Event Volunteer Set up and break down events; welcome and direct visitors; assemble and move auction items, etc. Hospitality Volunteer For lectures, greet visitors; collect fees if applicable. For exhibition receptions, set up tables, food, flowers, napkins, dishware and alcohol. Help serve and clean up. Bag or remove waste and recyclables. Flower Volunteer Make out of found or lent materials a modest arrangement for the information desk; e.g., one amaryllis bulb. Make floral arrangements for exhibition opening receptions. Installation Volunteer Must be able to lift 35 pounds and effectively use carpentry tools for exhibition installations and de-installations. Carpenters needed for myriad tasks, e.g. building wooden bases & repairing wooded picture frames, patch and paint walls / pedestals. Studio Volunteer Assist in orientation of new students; preparation and cleanup of classroom spaces; and with ordering, inventory and storage of materials. Ensure the comfort of students. Support the instructor. Artist-in-Residence Volunteer Greet out of town artists when they arrive at The Bascom or A-frame residence; give out and collect keys; orient them to town, facilities and various features at the A-frame. Library Volunteer Sort, label, document and shelve donated books and reference materials. Assist visitors with the use of holdings on site (this is not a lending library). Visitor Services Volunteer At or near information desk, help greet and orient visitors and shoppers. Help with other tasks, e.g. packing boxes, organizing storage area, etc. Landscape Volunteer Remove weeds, collect debris, at campus, on nature trail, around A-frame, and perhaps other locations. Parking Volunteer Manage car and vehicular flow and parking during functions that draw crowds to the campus. Recycling Volunteer Gather, segregate, consolidate, and move materials eligible for recycling to curbside for pickup. Building Volunteer To be determined. Intern Various assignments possible, from exhibition assistance to marketing and events. |
