Winter Light - Using Light, Composition and Texture in Photography February 27, 2010, 9 am - 4 pm, and February 28, 1-4 pm OR March 1, 2010, 9 am - 4 pm, and March 2, 9 am - 12:30 pm Medium: Photography Level: All levels 1.5 day Field/Studio Workshop Tuition: $150 Bascom members | $175 non-members www.newingtonphotography.com Gain an understanding of the role of natural light when composing color or black and white photographs. Emphasis will be placed on practical work in the field, using existing structures in and around The Bascom campus and fellow students as subjects for landscapes, architectural and portrait assignments. Workshop participants will learn how they can transform the most mundane or the most imposing of subjects by increasing their awareness and interpretation of texture, light and shadow. Time will be divided between in-the-field assignments and the classroom, including critiques, discussion, visual presentation and one-on-one feedback. Greg Newington has worked as a photographer/editor in Australia and The Middle East for over 38 years. He worked extensively in the field as a news photographer and photojournalist in Somalia, The Sudan, Bosnia, Cambodia, China, Laos and Vietnam. His news photography won an Australian Press Photographer of the Year award in 1988, and his photo illustrations won second and third prizes in the 2002 Nikon Australia National Press Awards. Newington was appointed to The Walkley Board In 2003 and was chairman of judges for the Walkley-Nikon Awards for Excellence in Journalism.
