Filer was born in San Jose, California, but was raised primarily in Australia. She returned to the U.S. and received a B.F.A from Southern Illinois, graduating with honors, and was the recipient of the Rickert-Ziebold Trust Award. Filer received an M.F.A. from the University of North Carolina, Chapel Hill. She has enjoyed a very successful painting career, holding an impressive record of sell-out shows. Her paintings are inspired by deep contemplations of life, reality and her relationship to nature. Filer's works are in numerous collections of corporate, commercial and private sectors across America, Europe and Asia. Included among these are IBM, Duke Hospital, Kevin Klose, President and CEO of National Public Radio, the American Embassy in Estonia and Eileen Naughton, Google New York-Sales Director, and former President of Time Magazine.
